According to North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Canadian and Mexican who
are categorized as professionals may apply for a TN visa. Professions such as:
Accountant, Actuary, Architect, Computer System Analyst, Disaster Relief Insurance
Claims Adjuster, Economist, Engineer, Forester, Graphic Designer, Hotel Manager,
Industrial Designer, Interior Designer, Land surveyor, Landscape Architect, lawyer,
Librarian, Management Consultant, Mathematician, Range Manager, Research Assistant,
Scientific Technician, Social Worker, Technical Publication Writer, Urban Planer,
Vocational counselor, Medical Professional, Scientist, and Teacher.
Duration of stay
TN professional can receive extensions of stay in one year increments, with no limit on the
total period of stay.
Family member of TN applicants
Spouses and unmarried minor children of TN applicant who are also Canadian citizens are
admitted to the Untied States as TD nonimmigrants. However, family members of a TN
alien are not authorized to work in the United States.
